Casting Notes

When trying to decide who to cast to play the main characters it came to my attention that they both needed to be dedicated to the role and that they also had to have an already established relationship that might not always have run smooth.

Daniel Ashfield was selected for the main role as he already had some acting experience from doing AS Drama and also Drama at GCSE, he was able t convey well through actions and facial expressions the personalty we wanted and also the wardrobe helped to make him look more authentic.

Melissa Fernandes was selected for the role of Daniel's love interest as she had also taken GCSE and AS Drama and could also use a range of expressions and actions to convey her feelings towards Daniel.

Dale Stewart was selected at Melissa's interest as he had an image that worked well for the character, despite having no prior experience in acting he seemed to have a joking, arrogance to him that made him perfect for the part.

Extras- we used extras during the 'hang out' scene and gathered together friends of all three characters to give it a more realistic and natural vibe.

Location report

Forbury Gardens was picked as one of the main locations for the video because it usually has a variety of things going on, mostly you can usually see people hanging around in groups having fun and couples sitting together which contrasted well with the way that the main character 'Dan' was supposed to interact with his love interest 'Mel' it also had good lighting which allowed us to film for a long time and the open space makes the meeting impersonal

The fountain in Forbury Gardens was used to set a new scene, usually fountains are associated with romance in films and we wanted to use it to give the impression that 'Mel' was more romantically interested in the other guy 'Dale' rather than 'Dan'

Prospect park was conveniently close to the school so allowed for us to use at all times, the idea is that unlike Forbury Gardens, this park is not frequently used or busy and was therefore better used to make him feel isolated and lonely. It helps the idea of him being stood up by her as the solitude makes him seem pathetic.

'Dans' bedroom was used because usually bedrooms are associated with intimacy and friendship because people that have only just met do not hang out in bedrooms, the closeness of the personal space implies that they are friends but that he obviously wants to be more.

The playroom was used because we thought that it would be perfect to hold a small gathering because it would show the way 'Dan' and 'Mel' interact with each other when around groups of people, it also showed off their personalities with daniel being isolated from the group and 'Mel' being in the centre showing what type of people they are
